Rally against military recruitment on Sunday, October 2nd
This event is being organized by a coalition of peace groups headed by the Veterans for Peace. A presence there will show Rep. Lynch that his backing of the Bush war policy is a betrayal of his constituents. There will also be flyers about military recruitment myths for students.
Please assemble at the East Jr. High School, 305 River St., Braintree (DIRECTIONS BELOW)
between 12:30 and 1:00 PM - Sunday Afternoon - October 2nd
The Seminar starts at 2:00 PM. However, the military used to be on time, so I would expect them to be setting up by about 1:00, and people will probably be arriving from 1:00 on, so I would like to see us in place with signs and leaflets between 12:30 and 1:00 PM.
This is an information seminar hosted by Congressman Lynch for high school students
interested in the Service Academies. All the Academies will be represented there and will make presentations and take questions. Hopefully we can get the Congressman to answer a few.

3 Comments:
There were about 20 people at the East Middle School - most were from the Veterans for Peace group. They were holding signs as Rep. Lynch arrived in his SUV. At least four signs mentioned Cindy Sheehan. One Vietnam vet, Tony Flaherty of South Boston, spoke directly to Lynch as he was about to enter the school. Another vet filmed the encounter. I could hear him talking about how kids felt trapped to enlist because there were no jobs or money for school. He also mentioned that Lynch did not serve nor did anyone in his family.
I was able to hand out flyers to a few students who attended the event - there were only about 15 to 20 who came. Most of them who were with parents refused to accept two-sided sheet put out by the American Friends' Service Committee about what students should know before signing up. Those who came alone took the flyer.
